Thanx for all 4 DVD`s, but need a little seed on DVD 4, please :o) All in 98.6%
Well I have now seen over 9 seeds in this torrent, yet all but one have disconnected from the torrent. Now I have uploaded over 9 GB on a 6.45GB torrent, and the torrent still isn't self supporting, so here I am seeding even more.
This may be due to either the ISPs interfering with the seeders (e.g. Comcast in the US), or a lot of cheating clients (e.g. Bit Comet), or both.
It's gotten bad enough in the last few months that I'm considering writing a patch to Azureus or Bit Tornado to automatically kick/ban peers that are holding pieces without sharing, even if they are sharing a lot of data (other pieces). That would really help initial seeders (super seeders) and get the torrent working much sooner for everybody. You can see this yourself with the piece map screen in Azureus. Any peer holding rare early peices can be manually kick/banned, thus speeding up the swarm by having my client not seed to them any more, but it's a hassle. On disk 3 of this series I had to manually kick/ban 26 peers in order to get the last 1% distributed. Think about it - without manually kick/banning those 26 peers, I would have had to upload an extra 26% just to get the last 1% into the swarm.
I suppose that the MPAA / RIAA could be connecting with a bunch of hoarding clients to create this situation. The irony is that it generates even more P2P traffic, which the ISPs hate.
In any event this problem can be worked around with patches to the existing popular clients. I just don't know if I will have time to write the patches in the next month or so (very busy at work now).
BT is also working on a new encryption / obfuscation scheme to thwart the Sandvine boxes that Comcast and others are using to detect BT traffic and forge TCP RST packets. The arms race is in full swing. :)
